A stored kWh used at peak is worth far more than an exported one.
Premium feed-in tariffs are being wound back. Without them, exporting surplus solar returns almost nothing, and your solar ROI changes. Adding a HEMS enables more of your solar PV excess to be used, reduces your water heating and EV charging costs, and minimises solar PV exports.
Solar without storage has no choice but to export at whatever the grid pays. You then buy power back later at peak rates, the worst of both sides. Typical solar-batteries do not support HEMS, leaving money on the table.
